They also established the Crusader states that the Kingdom of Jerusalem , kawnti of Tripoli , the Principality of Antioch and kawnti of Edessa. Because the First Crusade largely belonged to Jerusalem which was a city not under the control of the Christians for 461 years, the crusaders refused to return the land to the control of the Byzantine Empire .
