Love for the country and nationalism are now often associated with things related to politics and seem 'heavy'. This is what makes young people like me, or those of the millennial generation and Gen Z reluctant to be invited to contribute to the Indonesian nation.
However, this assumption is not entirely true. The reason is, there are still many things we can do to show our love for the country. It doesn't have to be a big action, even small things can be done. This is because the contribution of young people is very much needed, considering that there are still many problems that need to be addressed.
I summarize it in 5 ways that I love to contribute to love and protect this country:
1. Actively participate in volunteer activities
Young people today may be familiar with communities or non-profit organizations. Through these two platforms, I can contribute a lot to help the nation.
I contribute and work as a volunteer in the field of education, conservation, or humanism. I have one interest in this organization, in Indonesia there are many platforms or websites that provide various lists of organizations with specific issues ranging from education to mental health.
2. Love and use local products
Brands or foreign products are considered cooler by some people. However, that's not always the case. There are many products made by the nation's children with quality domestic resources. In addition to helping the country's economy, buying local goods can also reduce the cost of shipping goods. Ornaments and designs of domestic products also tend to be more unique and authentic.
3. Don't use pirated products
Because I'm a music fan, I like watching movies, I like to collect certain items, of course I'm no stranger to the term pirated. Even though the price is below the original product, actually buying pirated goods is an act that is self-defeating. Yes, the pirated goods we get are of poor quality.
4. Increase literacy and share knowledge
Literacy is not only related to reading activities, but also includes writing, speaking, counting, and solving problems. Therefore, this word is always associated with language skills. However, reading is indeed the most basic ability to be able to master other aspects.
5. Pay taxes on time
Some people who already have income or property are required to pay taxes. This tax paid by the community will later be used to finance state expenditures related to government processes, such as the provision of health facilities, public transportation, or infrastructure. Therefore, taxes are a form of service to the state and the contribution of the community to advance the nation.
