If it is a sprain (the most common injury for basketball players) you need to perform first aid. The acronym namely RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate) is the best thing to do. Have him in a comfortable position and NEVER move the injured part. Then after that, have him admitted to a clinic for further examination if he can continue to play.
