When the sperm and egg(ovum) fuse, their fusion is called fertilization. Since it takes place inside the body of the female.it is an internal fertilization. During this process, the nuclei of sperm and egg fuse to form a single nucleus. The resultant single cell,formed after the fertilization, is called zygote.
