a. They are smaller in Size.
b. They are low growing.
c. They produce less eggs i.e. 60 eggs/year.
2. Exotic breeds=> These are foreign breeds which have been successfully acclimatized in India. for example:- Leghorn, Rhode Island Red etc..
3. Cross Breeds=> These are the improved breeds of poultry. The majority of present day chickens are cross bred blocks. Example:- HH260, IBL-80 and B-77 etc..
They have few advantages:-
a. They lay more than 200 eggs/year.
b. They yield more meat.
c. They are best suited to the Indian Climate.
d. They produce quite larger eggs.
Management Practices:-
Housing and Feeds:-
1. Care of Broilers=> A broiler chicken for proper growth, requires vitamin rich supplement such that Vitamin A, Vitamin K also. Their died includes protein rich food and enough fatty foods.
2. Care of Layers=> Actually, Layers have two distinct phases of Life.
a. Growing Period=> The chickens at this age are called as Growers. They require enough space. The food is given in restricted and in calculated manners.
b. Laying Period=> This period is sexually maturity till the end of egg laying is called as Laying Periods. These factors have favorable effect on laying eggs. The foods given to layers are rich in vitamin and minerals.
Shelter=> Shelter should be cleaned, It should be spacious and airy , Floor of the house should be covered with litter of some dry absorptive material. It should have proper temperature.
