Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival celebrated in India. As, on the day of Raksha Bandhan sister ties a sacred thread to her brothers. The brothers promise that they will provide protection to their sister. This festival is celebrated on Shravan month according to Hindu calendar on full moon day.
Why Raksha Bandhan is celebrated ?
There are many stories which describe why we celebrate Raksha Bandhan. One of the famous story was, in 350 B.C.E ( approx.) Wife of Alexander the great sent a sacred thread to Porus, emperor of India during that period asking a promise that not to harm Alexander who is coming for war. Porus as per the promise he leaves Alexander. Here we can understand Porus was treated as a brother by the wife of Alexander.
In my view Raksha Bandhan is not only tying the thread but also showing an immense love towards the brothers. Rakhi, the sacred thread is not only tied to the brothers but also the loved ones too.
Importance of Sister in my life :
Well, I have an elder sister. I always fight with her for the remote of television as she likes serials. We sometimes fight very seriously I beat her and she beats me. But one thing to remember is that is not my enemy to fight but my friend, mother and a daughter too. Iam nothing without my sister. She supports me, encourages me, helps me. Actually, she is my second mother in terms of love.
Thanks again for the wonderful question.
