Assassination generally refers to death, but it's quite different from natural death. When we mean a person is assassinated , it means he was killed by someone else for something.
And We don't use the assassination for all people, it's used only when a famous person is killed for religious or political reasons. Here, The reason might not look a good one for killing for some group of people, while it will look a reasonable thing for others . A person may be assassinated in order to be paid
A best and familiar example to this :
Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse speaking the last words " He Ram "
Here Gandhi is a prominent person , He was a great freedom fighter . Godse killed him for some injustice he felt being done to his community.

=> A well known Political Figure , the Daughter of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru , and also the 3rd Prime Minister of India . She was Shot at 9:20am on 31st October in the year 1984 . The persons to shoot her were none other than her own Bodyguards "Satnam Singh " and "Beant Singh ".
The main reason for the act was the Operation BLUE STAR , that had severe effects on Sikhs.
