I would say if it can be readily replaced and they agree, replace it. The idea isn’t to give them a hundred bucks and let them go looking for a cheaper deal and pocket the money. What it used to cost is irrelevant unless they say “that’s not worth that much to me” what they may be saying is, I am not going to replace it, it was worthless to me. In that case you may not have to replace it. Somethings are truly sentimentally irreplaceable and then there will be hard feelings and all you can do is be kind.
