Pituitary gland controls the overall activities of other endocrine glands and is also associated with the secretion of other hormones Growth hormone, oxytocin, ADH, TSH, ACTH, etc. among which all of them have specific vital functions.
Thyroid gland stimulate and control the secretion of an essential hormone called Thyroxine which helps in controlling metabolic rate.
Adrenal glands (having two parts - Medulla and Cortex) secrete Adrenaline and cortisone. Adrenaline prepares the body for action and controls emotions like fear or anger. Regulation of blood pressure and heartbeat is an important function of this endocrine gland.
Endocrine pancreas takes part in controlling the amount of glucose in blood by converting extra glucose into glycogen which is stored in the liver and muscles. Thus, endocrine part of pancreas helps in regulating amount of sugar in the blood.
Gonads are also considered as a type of endocrine gland (ovaries in females and testes in males are called as gonads) which are responsible for producing the sex hormones in the human body. Tested produce testosterone that leads to the formation of sperms by spermatogenesis. Ovaries are also responsible for secretion of estrogen and progesterone.
