→ These tissues derived from the meristematic tissues but their cells have lost the power of division & have attained their definite forms. Permanent tissues are classified into two-simple & complex.
♦ Simple permanent tissue :-
→ These tissues are composed of cells which are structurally & functionally similar.
→ Thus, these tissues are all made of one type of cells.
They are of three types :
I. ] Parenchyma II. ] Collenchyma III. ] Sclerenchyma
♦ Complex permanent tissue :-
→ The complex tissues consist of more than one type of cells.
→ All these co-ordinate to perform a common function.
→ Complex tissues transport water, mineral salts (nutrients) & food material to various parts of plant body.
↪ The permanent tissue are formed by cell division of meristematic tissues followed by their diffentiated into definite types of tissue cells. ↪ These differentiated cells do not have ability to divide further. They are Classified into two types :-
↪ Simple permanent tissue are made up of only one type of cells. There are three basic types of these tissues named as :-
♦ Parenchyma :-
↪ The simple permanent tissue made up thin walled living cells and present in almost all the organs of plant. Cells are in spherical, oval or elliptical or enlongated, intercellular space are present between cells. ↪ This tissue provide support to the plants and synthesis food and stores it. ↪ The cells also store Tammins, gum, various crystals, resin and some inorganic substance. ↪ This tissue is found to fill up space between different tissues and thus acts as ground tissue.
♦ Collenchyma :-
↪ The cell of this simple permanent tissue are living with spherical, oval or polygonal shape. The cell wall is made up of cellulose which shows deposition of pectin. ↪ The tissues provide mechanical strength to the organs and hence it is known as living mechanical tissue. ↪ The tissue also give elasticity and flexibility to the organs.
♦ Sclerenchyma :-
↪This simple permanent tissue makes the plant hard and stiff. ↪ Cells of the Sclerenchyma are of two types : 1) Sclerenchyma fibres 2) sclerides ↪ They provide mechanical strength and rigidity to the plants and hence are known as dead mechanical tissue.
⚫ Complex Permanent Tissue
↪ Xylem and Phloem are two Most important complex Permanent Tissue.
♦ Xylem :-
↪ The complex Permanent Tissue that conducts water and dissolved mineral salts upward from root to leaves is called Xylem. ↪ Xylem consits : 1) Tracheids 2) Vessels of Tracheae 3) Xylem Parenchyma 4) Xylem fibres.
♦ Phloem :-
↪ This complex Permanent Tissue is concerned with translocation of organic food materials from leaves to the various plant organs. ↪ The Phloem comprise :- 1) Sieve cells 2) Phloem Parenchyma 3) Phloem Fibres 4) Sieve tubes 5) companion cells.
