Do you think understanding the culture in using all the Filipinos is important? Why?
Culture has a significant impact on one's life. It is also the key to one's identity, not only because it drives and leads people to their way of life. However, believing that our culture is what drives us separates us from one another. Even in terms of politics and economics, we strove to protect our social and cultural interests when judging what was desirable and for our own objectives. True, we have not been able to identify with ourselves in this century, and we are truly distanced from one another. It is already a part of our daily life for us. We may not be aware of it, but this is the fact of our culture.
We came from a culture like this. We only identify as Filipinos because of our citizenship of our culture, but our nationality is deeply ingrained in the place to which we belong. One foreigner, for example, might simply inquire, "Who are you and where did you come from?" " and a Filipino's response is "I am an Igorot, from Ifugao, Philippines." Rather than saying "I am a Filipino," we will always respond in terms of our regional identity by saying "I am an Igorot, from Ifugao, Philippines." Another example is the Muslim community in Mindanao, which is known as Bangsa Moro.
