Today you learned that our reactions to the stressful events of Pandemic or any other form of disaster were normal and valid. How does this new learning that my reactions and feelings toward Covid-19/disaster were normal after all help me?
Here is the explanation about how our reactions and feelings towards Covid-19 are actually normal and how it helps me
The short answer to this question is that we simply never know about a situation until we experience it ourselves and thus I feel less anxious toward the disease. Considering how Covid-19 actually originated as well as the fact that nobody could predict it before its onset, our reactions and feelings towards it are valid.
Several reactions such as us being lazy back in 2020, afraid of going out, and afraid almost all the time are our ways of dealing with an unprecedented event such as the recent pandemic. We could never help it, because it is natural. In addition, everyone would probably agree that they also felt anxious and fear that they might contact the virus, especially considering how our society respond to it.
We should also factor in the fact that all aspects of human lives are affected by it. Social life is gone, the economy experienced a halt, and tourism was basically non existent are several instances of the big changes during Covid-19.
The fact that our reactions and feelings toward Covid-19 were normal after all help me a lot because I finally understand that I am not alone in this. Everyone around the globe is affected by it. This gives me a hopeful sense that at the very least, I am in this together. Thankfully, this results in me not being so afraid anymore of contacting the disease, as well as going out a little to get groceries, for example.
In addition, this understanding helps me that we have a sense of solidarity as human beings, because we are together in this, and I believe someday we will overcome this ordeal. Granted, currently the cases are decreasing, or at least not that severe such as during the first year of Covid-19.
