Peristalsis, involuntary movementsof the longitudinal and circular muscles, primarily in the digestive tract but occasionally in other hollow tubes of the body, that occur in progressive wavelike contractions. Peristaltic wavesoccur in the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Antiperistalsis (anti-pe-ri-stal-sis) n. a wave of contraction in the alimentary canal that passes in an oral (i.e. upward or backwards) direction. hope it helps......
