arge Klarisse was early to school. She couldn't miss the school-wide musical competition because her bestfriend Mori was going to represent their class. Aside from giving her moral support, she volunteered to assist Mori in her outfit and all the preparation she would need before walking up the stage to sing. Everyone was enthusiastic about the day. Since everyone knew that Klarisse was Mori's bestfriend, she was constantly asked by teachers and classmates. "Klarisse, you must really be excited for your friend. Where is she?" one of their teachers asked. "I'm sure she's on her way, Miss Jona," Klarisse politely answered. An hour before the competition, the contestants were to gather at the hall for orientation on the program. Almost all the contestants were there already except Mori. Mr. Santos, Mori's vocal coach, was quite worried that Mori was not yet there. "Didn't Mori know about the assembly?" he grumpily asked Klarisse. The way he looked at Klarisse made her uncomfortable. She wanted to reassure him that Mori was surely coming. But even if she wanted to, she could not hide her worries because Mori was not answering her calls. "Klarisse, Mori knows very well how important this is for our class. And you know how much we have prepared for this. You were there at every rehearsal, and sometimes would sing along. You were supposed to be the one representing our class but you declined so Mori could have this chance. Do you think she will come?" Mr. Santos asked Klarisse. Before she could answer, the contest's host has started welcoming the audience. Everyone cheered loudly and was just as excited. 7
