1] The animals which eat both plant food as well as meat of animals are called Omnivores , e.g. man , dog etc.

2] The physical and biological world around us where we live is called environment.

i) Mercury that was released from Vinyl Chloride factory in Japan used to reach the bBay of Minamata.

ii) It entered bodies of fish , crab and molluscs of that region .

iii) The people who consumed these animals as food developed a disease which was named as Minamata disease in 1956.

iv) It causes initial number of limbs , lips and tongue .

v) Finally , it lead to impairment of motor control , defence , blurring of vision , cellular degeneration in the brain , coma and death

i) The specific position of an organism in the food web is called ' niche '.

ii) Niche not only denotes the animal's position in the food web and what it eats , but also its mode of life.

iii) A niche describes an organism's occupation , the weight goes about its business and earns its living .

i) Vultures and kites are top carnivores and decaying feed on dead organisms.

ii) By doing so, the act as natural scavengers of the earth and help it cleaning the environment by eating the dead and decaying organisms.

6] Decomposers act on the organisms of all tropical levels of a food chain. Hence ,they are not included in food chains .

Eg : Fungi and bacteria

No , it is not right to eradicate a living organism in an ecosystem .

If we eradicate a living organism in an ecosystem , it affects the food chain and food webs in an ecosystem.

It leads to imbalance in the ecosystem.

Biotic components. Eg. plants , animals , etc.
Abiotic components . Eg. soil , air , water , etc.

Natural ecosystems : Forests , ponds , lakes , etc.
Artificial ecosystems ( man made ecosystem ) :- Gardens , crop fields , etc.

i) Whe Green plants are eaten by primary consumers , a great deal of energy is lost as heat to the environment.

ii) Some amount of this energy goes for digestion and doing work , while the rest of energy goes towards growth and reproduction at each trophic level.

III) An average of 10% of the food eaten is returned to the body weight of an organism ( at the trophic level) and made available for the next level of consumers.
