An old Apitong post 250 mm x 250 mm x 5 m long was designed with an allowable compressive
stress of 9.25 MPa and a modulus of elasticity of 7.2 GPa. It is designed to substitute the old Apitong post
with a new post made of Yakal of the same length as the old post. Allowable compressive stress of Yakal
is 15.8 MPa with a modulus of elasticity of 9.78 GPa. Determine the following: a) The capacity of the old
Apitong post. b) The cross-sectional dimension of the Yakal post is required to replace the old Apitong
post, and c) The percentage increase in the capacity of the new post to the old post.
