An end joint of a wooden truss as shown in the figure has a dap whose depth is 40 mm. The
top chord member has a dimension of 100 mm x 100 mm and is subjected to an axial load of 25 kN. The
bottom chord member is 100 mm x 200 mm in cross section. Allowable stress are as follows.
Compressive stress parallel to grain P = 11 MPa
Compressive stress perpendicular to grain q = 4.8 MPa
Use Jacoby’s formula to determine the following:
a) The compressive stress acting on member BC.
b) The allowable compressive stress on member BC.
c) The compressive stress acting on the member AB.
d) The allowable compressive stress acting on member AB.
