9) Orchids of the species Ophrys insectifera (up to 60 cm tall) are known for their flowers with a shape and texture similar to those of a wasp, the insect that pollinates them. See figure 3.26. These flowers give off an odor similar to that given off by the female wasp, which facilitates the attraction of the male wasp. The male wasp ends up carrying pollen from one flower to another when trying to mate with the orchid flower. This increases the chances of the plant's reproduction and, consequently, of the species' survival. Consider the physical appearance of the flower to answer the following question: How can this feature be explained on the basis of Darwin's principle of natural selection?​
