Bullet is moving with the initial speed u = 90 m/s when bullet travels inside the wood it come to the rest position so final velocity is Zero i.e. v = 0
Distance travelled in wood S = 60 cm = 0.6 m
NOW ,newtons third equation of motion is :
v2 − u2 =2asas v = 0we geta = − u22sOn substituting the values we geta = −6750 m/s2
Resistive force = mass×retardation=− 0.04×6750 =− 270 N
This is the resistance offered by the wooden block.
