1. What is the role of primary producers Secondary producers and decomposers in the carbon cycle?

Answer:
Primary producers – produce energy from sunlight and carbon in the environment. Pass carbon onto secondary consumers. ... Decomposers – Release stored Carbon Dioxide into the air by decomposing dead organisms.

2. Where is most of the earth' carbon located? What form is it?

Answer:
Carbon is the chemical backbone of life on Earth. Carbon compounds regulate the Earth's temperature, make up the food that sustains us, and provide energy that fuels our global economy. Most of Earth's carbon is stored in rocks and sediments. The rest is located in the ocean, atmosphere, and in living organisms.

3. How does carbon enter the biotic part of the ecosystem

Answer:
Carbon enters the biotic (living) part of the ecosystem through photosynthesis.

4. What functions do plants have in the forest in carbon cycle?

Answer:
Plants absorb carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to make their own food, grow and release oxygen through photosynthesis. They're a huge part in keeping our air clean. The carbon becomes part of the plant. Plants that die and are buried may turn into fossil fuels made of carbon like coal and oil over millions of years.

5. How is carbon dioxide returned in the atmosphere?

Answer:
Photosynthesis removes Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere turning the Carbon into Carbohydrates, such as cellulose found in wood. Cellular Respiration, burning coal, wood, gasoline, turn the Carbon-based molecules back into Carbon Dioxide and water. These Oxidation reactions return the Carbon Dioxide to the atmosphere.

6. What happens when primary and secondary consumers die?

Answer:
When a primary and secondary consumer die they decay. Decomposers break down their remains, returning nutrients to the soil, and releasing carbon dioxide through respiration.

7. What do detritus feeders contribute to carbon cycle?

Answer:
Detritus feeders feed on dead and decaying producers (plants) and consumers (animals) and return carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. They also contribute to the CO2 pool by processing dead and waste organic matter.

8. What is a fossil fuel?

Fossil fuels are made from decomposing plants and animals. These fuels are found in the Earth's crust and contain carbon and hydrogen, which can be burned for energy. Coal, oil, and natural gas are examples of fossil fuels. ... This material is heated in order to produce the thick oil that can be used to make gasoline.

9. How does carbon get in the ocean?

Answer:
The ocean takes up carbon dioxide through photosynthesis by plant-like organisms (phytoplankton), as well as by simple chemistry: carbon dioxide dissolves in water. ... The new water takes up yet more carbon to match the atmosphere, while the old water carries the carbon it has captured into the ocean.
