why is water called the universal solvent?

answer: Water is called the universal solvent because many substances dissolve in it. Water is a molecule , which is a combination of atoms held together by a chemical bond. One other key property of water is that it is polar, which means one side of the molecule has a negative charge and the other side has a positive charge.​
