Why are helium, neon, krypton, argon, xenon and radon known as inert gases?

They are called inert gases becuase they have 8 electrons in their valence shell . which makes their outer shell complete . inert means chemically neutral hence it might be clear to u .

They all are known as inert gases because their last shell i.e. valence shell has attained complete octet that is they have 8 electrons jn their last shell. This makes them noble. They don't undergo any kind of reaction with other elements.
This means they don't react. But so far scientists have performed experiments so that these noble elements react. They have made Xenon react with platinum flouride. In the same way scientists are looking for more such reactions of noble elements.
