When I was born I was black
When I was sad I was black
When I was not i was black
When I was sick I was black
When I was scared I was black
When you was born you was pink
when you was sad you was blue
When you was hot you was red
When you was sick you was green
When you was scared you was yellow

Title of this poem:
"And you called me colored."
The theme of the poem is about the awareness of racism. The poem explains that white people often refer to black people as "colored" when in fact, white people are the ones who easily change their colors depending on their mood, situations their going through, temperature, emotions, and etc. Meanwhile, black people are black, so the poem says, they stay black. When we get sick, we turn greenish, we we're pinkish when we we're born, we turn red when we feel hot, we turn blue when we are sad, and yellow when we're scared.
This poem explains that everybody feels the same emotion, but not everything that we feel shows. But it does not mean if their skin tone is darker and their emotion and feelings do not show through their skin, it is okay for us to call them "colored". So no one has a right to judge someone because of their skin color.
