Respiration is the oxidative breakdown of the respiratory substrate:glucose in humans,in turn giving out energy. On the basis of their occurrence, respiration are of two types: Aerobic Respiration and Anaerobic Respiration
Aerobic Respiration
Aerobic Respiration occurs in the presence of oxygen
It occurs in both cytoplasm and mitochondria of the cell
It gives out from energy compared to anaerobic respiration, around 38ATP
Complete breakdown of the respiratory substrate
On oxidation, produces water and carbon-dioxide while releasing some heat energy
E.g., Humans
Anaerobic Respiration
It occurs in the absence of oxygen
Only occurs in the mitochondria of a cell
Lesser energy output compared to the latter: 2ATP
Incomplete breakdown of glucose
On oxidation,it either yields Lactic Acid or Ethanol with minimal energy
