Context Clues are hints found within the sentence, paragraph, or passage that a reader can use to understand the meanings of new or unfamiliar words. 3. There are five types of context clues. These are Inference, Definition, Example. Antonym and Synonym. 4. Use the acronym IDEA to easily remember them. 5. Inference refers to determining text clues to arrive at the meaning of the unfamiliar word. 6. Definition means considering the dictionary meaning of the new word. 7. Another easy way to get meaning is by knowing an example of it. 8. Its Antonym may also lead you to its meaning. 9. Synonym or its simile or the use of the words like and as can lead you to the meaning of the word. 10. A combination of any of the different types of context clues may not be used as guide to know the meaning of the difficult word.​
