WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
1.What are the important details you should consider in analyzing an artwork?
2.In an artwork, how will you recognize an example of Renaissance style and Baroque style?
3.What is the difference of Renaissance style from Baroque Style?
Answers & Comments
1.Formal analysis breaks down the use of the Elements of Art (line, shape, space, value, color and texture) and the Principles of Art (unity, harmony, balance, rhythm, contrast, dominance, gradation). It looks closely also at composition and the Attributes of Art (emotional, aesthetic, spatial).
2.Baroque art is generally characterized by ornate details whereas Renaissance art is characterized by the fusion of Christianity and science which creates realism through art.
3.Baroque art is asymmetric and has more dramatic use of colours. Renaissance art is symmetric and has less dramatic use of colours. Bernini and Caravaggio are one of the famous artists of the baroque art. Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo are one of the famous artists of the renaissance art.
