The spaces between the particles in known as inter-particle space and is inversely proportional to molecular force. As the kinetic energy of the particles decreases, the molecules vibrate at la lower rate which produces less heat as a result they come closer causing the inter-particle spaces to decreases.
This can be explaned as the transfer of heat frkm the particles to the atmosphere or any other body by convection, conduction or radiation.
