But in fact, the sand is anything but dirty and is made up of a really cool iron ore derivative called magnetite. If you hold a magnet over the sand, the tiny bits stick to it. The sand particles themselves become magnetic and they then attract more sand and you can conduct all sorts of fun science experiments.
