What do you think will happen to the plant if any of the parts that make up the shoot system were injured or diseased?

Any damage to the shoot systems would cause the death of most plants through disease or normal rot. Since the shoot system includes everything you see of the plant above the ground, if it gets injured or damaged (depending on the severity), will jeopardize the entire plant.
