Competition is when individuals or populations compete for the same resource, and can occur within or between species.

Predation is an important relationship between organisms. One organism feeds on another organism. The organism that is eaten is called prey. The organism that is eating is called the predator.

Commensalism is a type of relationship between two living organisms in which one organism benefits from the other without harming it. A commensal species benefits from another species by obtaining locomotion, shelter, food, or support from the host species, which (for the most part) neither benefits nor is harmed.

Mutualism describes the ecological interaction between two or more species where each species has a net benefit. ... Mutualism can be contrasted with interspecific competition, in which each species experiences reduced fitness, and exploitation, or parasitism, in which one species benefits at the "expense" of the other.

Parasitism is a relationship in which one organism benefits and the other organism is harmed, but not always killed. The organism that benefits is called the parasite, and the one that is harmed is the host.
