This article presents the advantages and disadvantages of a dual sex team teaching model in educating social work students in human sexuality. The authors have based their ideas on nine years of team teaching and relevant literature on team teaching and cotherapy. A dual sex team facilitates introducing a human sexuality course to the curriculum, student advising, modeling effective communication, and the use of specific teaching strategies. One disadvantage is that the heterosexual orientation implicit in this instructional model may restrict opportunities for unprejudiced examination of other orientations. Another is the possibility that power struggles between marital partners will detract from their effectiveness as teachers. Research to test the relative effectiveness of solo and dual sex team teaching is recommended.
