1. Environment is the sum total of all the external forces, influences and conditions, which affect the life, nature, behavior and the growth, development and maturation of living organisms.
2. Lithosphere is defined as the area of the planet where organisms live, including the ground and the air.
3. Humans affect the environment in many ways.
4. Oceans represent 97% of the earth's water and about 2% of the water resources is locked in the polar icecaps and glaciers. Only about 1% is available as fresh water as surface water in rivers, lakes, streams, and as ground water for human use.
5. The environment consists of three segments of the earth namely hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere. 6. The lithosphere is the solid, outer part of the Earth. The lithosphere includes the brittle upper portion of the mantle and the crust, the outermost layers of Earth's structure.
