Soviet Union's Perspective
The United States overthrew a democratically elected government in Guatemala. The reason was simply to create more favorable conditions for the United Fruit Company. This was a glaring example of US imperialism.

Answer:
The Unaligned Movement (UAM) viewed the US-backed Guatemalan coup of 1955 as a blatant violation of the Guatemalan people's right to self-determination. The UAM condemned the US for using its economic, political, and military power to overthrow a democratically elected government and pointed out that the US intervention was motivated by economic interests rather than the protection of freedom and democracy. The UAM also called for an end to US interference in the internal affairs of Latin American countries and for the respect of the Latin American people's right to choose their own form of government.
