TYPES OF VERBS A. Action Verbs An action verb expresses action. It tells what a person or a thing does. Take a look at the following examples: Laura waters the plants every morning and afternoon. The boys play basketball every day. The teachers teach the lessons well. (Note: The underlined words in the above sentences are action verbs.) B. Linking Verbs A linking verb links the subject of the sentence with information about it. Study the sentences below. My mother is pretty. Jonathan seems worried. The cake on the table looks so delicious. (Note: The underlined words are all examples of linking verbs.) Take note that there are special verbs which can be both an action and linking verb.
