Answer: The two angles have a measure of 42 degrees and 48 degrees.
Solution:
Let x and y be the angles:
y = y (First Angle)
x = 2y - 36 (Second Angle)
When we say two angles are complementary, their sum is equal to 90 degrees. Hence:
x + y = 90
(2y -36 ) + y = 90
3y - 36 = 90
3y - 36 + 36 = 90 + 36
3y = 126
3y/3 = 42
y = 42 degrees (First Angle)
x = 2(42) - 36
x = 84 - 36
x = 48 degrees (Second Angle)
To check:
First Angle + Second Angle = 90
42 + 48 = 90
90 = 90

Solution:
Let x and y be the angles:
y = y (First Angle)
x = 2y - 36 (Second Angle)
When we say two angles are complementary, their sum is equal to 90 degrees. Hence:
x + y = 90
(2y -36 ) + y = 90
3y - 36 = 90
3y - 36 + 36 = 90 + 36
3y = 126
3y/3 = 42
y = 42 degrees (First Angle)
x = 2(42) - 36
x = 84 - 36
x = 48 degrees (Second Angle)
To check:
First Angle + Second Angle = 90
42 + 48 = 90
90 = 90
