I was a big-time LEGO fan when I was a kid— age 6–11 or so. I played with LEGO a lot. It was typically all over the floor, and I knew how to step on pieces without breaking them. I had it down to a science.
But by age 12, I started to feel self-conscious about my old toys, so they ended up going in the attic.
Fast forward a few years, and when I was about 17, my LEGO started coming back into my room. I no longer felt quite so ashamed about playing with LEGO, although I certainly didn’t broadcast it to the world. … But I was much heavier at age 17 than at age 11.
Hence, when I again employed my oh-so-carefully mastered art of walking across a floor strewn with LEGO bricks (the exact same floor!), I actually broke two pieces under the weight of my feet. Yikes! The first time I thought maybe it was a fluke, but the 2nd time it happened, I realized I had simply gotten bigger!
