There lived a farmer whose name was Sanku.
He was a good person but a little greedy.
One day a saint came to his house and
asked for some food. Sanku obliged
him by giving delicious food. The saint
was pleased and asked him to seek
anything from him in his blessings.
Sanku asked for something that
could make him rich without
working hard. The saint gave him a
hen as return for the favour done by
him. The hen was special because it laid
one golden egg. Every day till ten days he sold
them for a very good price. The farmer was very happy at the turn of his fortune
and wanted to get rich at once. He became impatient and thought that if he could
lay his hands on all the eggs at one time he could become very wealthy at once.
The foolish farmer thought that the eggs were hidden inside the hen. He decided
to kill the hen to his purpose. He did not find a single golden egg inside the hen
The farmer realized his mistake and understood the consequence of greed was
never good.
