The poem ‘Father to son’ depicts the relationship of a father and son that exists only in name and papers. In reality, the father knows nothing about his son and they always misunderstand each other. Because of these things, there is no bond between both of them.
The father and son have been living in the same house for years yet they are not able to connect to each other and hence their relationship lies broken. Both of them act formally with each other as if they are strangers. Although the son looks like his father in physical terms, yet he had his own dreams and aspirations. He never had his father’s vision in his eyes.
The lack of communication and anguish leaves the father helpless and in grief. He tries to sort things out with his son but there is no response from the other side. Hence, the relationship of the father and son was not on good terms.
