The intensity of light produced by a light source varies inversely as the square of the distance from the source. If the intensity of the light produced 3 feet from a light source is 750 foot-candles, find the intensity of light produced 5 feet from the same source.

let
intensity of the light by a light source = y
distance from the source = x
equation
y = k/x²
if
y = 3ft
x = 750 ft
find:
y if x = 5
solution:
y = k/x²
3 = k/(750²)
k = 1,687,500
y = 1,687,500/(5²)
y = 67,500 ft
