The age of Marlon is 7 more than three times the age of Allan. The product of their age is 26. Write an equation that represents the product of their ages. Find the age of Marlon and Allan. Can somebody show the solution on how the answers were 13 and 2?

Allan = X
Y = 3x + 7

Product of their age = x (3x +7)
26 = x (3x+7)
26 -26= 3x^2+7x-26
3x^2+7x-26 = 0

Get the factors of 24 then use the each factors to get the correct answer

Factors are : 1,2,13,26

Test factor 1
3x^2+7x-26 = 0
3(1^2)+7(1)-26=0
3(1)+7(1)-26=0
3+7-26=0
10-26=0
-16=0

So the first factor is not correct, now try factor 2

Test factor 1
3x^2+7x-26=0
3(2^2)+7(2)-26=0
3(4)+7(2)-26=0
12+14-26=0
26-26= 0
0=0

Hence, your X = 2

Now to get your Y (Marlons age)

Y = 3x + 7
Y = 3(2)+ 7
Y = 6 + 7
Y = 13

darkgreywolf18 Yes po 3x squared ang meaning. Nakuha po yung age ni Allan sa pag hanap po ng factors ng 3x^2+7x-26=0 pag finactor out po kasi 2 po ang lalabas sa solution. So ang age ni Allan ay x then substitute x=2 then yung kay Marlon is substitution na lang po sa 3x+7. I hope that helps.

darkgreywolf18 Pag nakuha mo na yung factor na 2, ang gagawin mo ay substitution na lang. Bale 3x+7 then remember ang value ni x is 2. So 3(2)+7=13. 3x2=6; 6+7=13.
