In physics, a force is an influence that can change the motion of an object. A force can cause an object with mass to change its velocity, i.e., to accelerate. Force can also be described intuitively as a push or a pull. A force has both magnitude and direction, making it a vector quantity.

n science, the word 'force' has a precise meaning. At this level, it is completely appropriate to describe a force as a push or a pull. A force is not something that an object contains or 'has in it'. A force is exerted on one object by another. The idea of a force is not limited to living things or non-living things.
