Answer: Once upon a time, a miller has a very beautiful daughter that he was very proud of.
One day, the miller boasts to the king that his daughter can spin gold out of straw.
Piquing the king's interest, he took the miller's daughter and locked her up to spin some gold for him.
The daughter, being unable to do so, cried, and just in the middle of her breakdown, a small man came to her and asked why she was crying.
She then explained and the little man made a deal that if she were to give him something precious to him then he will spin the gold for her.
She gave him her necklace and the gold he did spin.
The king was happy and so he locked her up with even more straw to spin.
This time, the daughter gave the little man her ring and he got to work. The king, becoming more and more greedy, locked her up in a bigger room with even more straws.
The little man once again came to her but she had nothing left to give and she agrees when the little man asks to give him her firstborn child.
The King was so delighted that he married the miller's daughter and they were given a child.
The little man appears before her but she forgot about their agreement and refuses to give her child.
He then said that if she were to guess his name correctly then he will let her have her child, she was given three days to know his name.
She sent out all of their messengers in the hope to find out about his name but the first two days were unsuccessful.
For the last day, one of the messengers had spotted a funny-looking man dancing around the fire, chanting his name, Rumpelstiltskin.
When the little man returned in the night, she told him his name. Out of rage, he stomped the floor so hard that he split in two, and the King and the miller's daughter lived happily ever after with their child.
