Solved the following problems for heat engine.
1. During a cyclic process, a heat engine absorbs 500J of heat from a hot reservoir, and
removes an amount of heat 300J into the surroundings (cold reservoir). Calculate the
efficiency of the heat engine.
2. A steam engine boiler is maintained at 250°C and water is converted into steam. This
steam is used to do work and heat is ejected to the surrounding air at 300K. Calculate
the maximum efficiency it can have.
3. Suppose a steam engine receives steam at 500K. The engine uses part of this thermal
energy for work. It exhausts the rest to a condenser at a temperature of 300K. What is
the maximum efficiency of this steam engine?
4. A heat engine does 9200J of work per cycle while absorbing 22.0kcal of heat from a
high-temperature reservoir. What is the efficiency of this engine?
5. A heat engine exhausts 8200J of heat while performing 3200J of useful work. What is
the efficiency of this engine?
