When we want to charge a neutral sphere negatively, we bring a positively charged object near it. This will cause the near end of the sphere to acquire a negative charge due to induction and far end to acquire a positive charge due to the deficiency of electrons which left the far end to go to the near end.
Now coming to the question, we know that positive charges or protons cannot move, the electrons during the process of grounding. Earth will neutralise all the charge that is connected to it by grounding whether it is positive or negative, but if the charge is positive electrons will move to restore a neutral charge at the far end of the sphere
