February 2023 2 7 Report
Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow. The wheel is an amazing invention that set off many changes in the way people do things and led to what we call 'civilisation'. In our life today, wheels are everywhere. We see them under cars, buses, trucks, aeroplanes, trains and motorcycles. The machines we use every day use wheels to work. Without wheels, we would not have anything functioning-including things as small as doorknobs or clocks! No one knows exactly who invented the wheel and when. But, according to research, the wheel had been in use as early as 5,000 years ago in the countries now known as Syria, Iraq and Turkey. Initially, humans used wheels to make pots. Perhaps it was after that, that the cartwheels were invented. The earliest carts were two-wheeled and open. Archaeologists have discovered models of carts from some sites in Harappa whe people lived 4,000 years ago. We can still see carts drawn by bullocks, camels, horses and buffaloes in India.
