Great people are born to produce an influence on society. Ishwar chandra Vidya Sagar was a

great social reformer , writer and educator. He lived a humble life with determination and

purpose. He was a strong advocate of women education. He exercised his power to open

schools for girls. He went door to door and requested the head of families to allow their

daughters to be enrolled in schools. He strongly protested against polygamy and child marriage.

He favoured widow remarriage and women education. He was a renowned professor. He

played important role in changing the old methods of teaching. He included English and Bengali

as mediums of learning besides Sanskrit. He also included courses in European History,

Philosophy and Vedic Scriptures. He was famous for his courage and soft heart. He was always

ready to help others. He was easily moved in tears when he saw someone in pain .
