People’s mental health during this pandemic is unstable because of the fear and anxiety that tend to be higher during this kind of situation. Adapting to what they called “the new normal” changing people’s lifestyles such as adjusting the work and education environment, physical activities that turned into virtual, and changing our daily routine to cope with this global pandemic. The fear of being infected and transmitting the virus to their loved ones, losing jobs, loss of income, fall through of businesses, isolation, and lack of physical and social activities with relatives, friends, and colleagues can cause the increasing demand for mental health services.
According to Ramani S. Durvasula, a clinical psychologist and professor of psychology in Los Angeles, This pandemic impacts all individual’s mental health, particularly the people with mental health conditions. Isolation is the most usual cause of anxiety and depression because loneliness is having no one to share your problems with and having no social activities with other people.
This is why according to World Health Organization we need to keep up with daily routines as far as possible, keep in regular contact with people close to you by telephone or by social media, avoid using alcohols and drugs it can lead to infections and high risk of health issues, instead eat healthy foods and exercise daily to keep your body and immune system strong and healthy to prevent anxiety concerning your health. Just what Dr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization said, “Good mental health is absolutely fundamental to overall health and well-being,”
What we are experiencing now is a massive change and unfortunate circumstances, having a global pandemic and being in a state of calamity. Seeing people fighting for their lives physically or mentally to survive and continue living to see how the world will cure itself and its people.
