a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
Stereotypes are both a good thing and a bad thing. Like said in the definition, it's an oversimplified idea of a particular type. Stereotypes gives us an idea about a particular something that we are interested in. It's an idea about something. The problem comes in if people think that idea is true and apply to all person in that idea. One example of a stereotype is that asian parents always expect their children to have high grades. It's true that asian parents prioritize academics, but not all asian parents pressure their children into having high grades.
This is my opinion on stereotypes, you are welcome to ask any questions.
