Antarctica is something you may have heard of; be it on the internet, your local school, or from a friend, even. However, have you ever wondered what lies hidden in this icy land?
For starters, you may have already known that Antarctica is; if not the coldest, one of the coldest and driest continents. Even in summer, it keeps its chilly reputation (the coasts and Peninsula being an exception.) That being said.. it isn't a very ideal travel spot for most. But there are many things to discover of this polar desert.
Some examples are the beautiful clear ice caves and ice towers. Ice caves are a phenomena formed when melted water runs under or through a glacier, leaving behind a cavern or passageways within it. Of course during summer months, the ice on the surface would melt, but it is a very ethereal spot where you can either take photos or admire the view!
On the other hand, ice towers are formed by the condensation of fumarolic vapors. Water is always below freezing point in these locations, and diffused degassing of carbon dioxide through the warm ground causes ice to melt, vaporize, then turn into chimney like towers. Antarctica may not be a very popular travel spot but it truly is a beautiful one nonetheless.
No matter how many people may not like it, it is a wonderful work from God. The almost ethereal ice caves and ice towers aren't the only things you can admire on this continent. Though its coldness may be an inconvenience to some, you can tell that it was shaped carefully by Him. Truly, Antarctica is an unique, gorgeous part of the Earth that has natural and beautiful sights you cannot see anywhere else.
