So basically it's nothing but when British were ruling India they introduced many laws
In 1829, A British official called Lord William Bentick passed the Sati Prohibition Act ( if any person commits sati, whoever abets the commission of such sati, either directly or indirectly, shall be punishable with death or imprisonment for life and shall also be liable to fine )
In 1856 , A British official called Lord Dalhousie passed the widow Remaragie act ( earlier times we had the sathi system where if the husband die the wife should burn themselves in fire but as many were against it the introduced the widow remarriage act where they can get married again and start a new life)
These acts were important for social reform ( These acts took place in the change of role of women)
